A Day on the Street

November 2, 2016

Today, I got to spend time at Pearl Street Inc.

I thought it would be a great opportunity to explore the world of marketing and see if this is a job that I might be interested in. It was a super fun day and taught me about the aspects of marketing.

At the beginning of the day, everyone got together and we brainstormed ideas for my social media project and for this blog. I learned that communication is a big part of marketing. You need to work together, listening to their ideas and throwing out your own. The team brought up some great ideas for my projects that I wouldn’t have thought of. They taught me to figure out your target audience and message, once you got that, the rest can be built around it.

Another thing I did was worked on Canva with some designs. Canva is a website that allows you to quickly create branding designs and logos, using templates, pictures, text, and much more! I would like to think I was a natural, but that would be a lie. They gave me a branding guideline for their company, which shows you the fonts, colours, and logo used when branding. I thought it was a pretty neat tool!

My biggest project, though, was social media. We used Twitter and Instagram to tell people all about my day (#KidstoWork). I had never used Twitter before, so it was a double learning experience for me! Hopefully, everyone got to see what was happening, if not I’m here too! It wasn’t hard to find things to post about considering all the awesome things I’ve gotten to do today!

Later on, I get to head back into Guelph to sit in on two meetings! Also, sorry to say it mom, but this was more fun than accounting! I am so glad I got this amazing opportunity to come to Pearl Street for a day. I learned a lot, got to miss gym class, and I’ve concluded that, yes, this is definitely a job I would be interested in for the future.
